Pahalgam is Kashmir at its most serene. The Lidder River rushing through pine forests, snow peaks visible from your hotel window, and a pace of life that forces you to slow down. At 2,130 metres in the Anantnag district, Pahalgam is 95 km from Srinagar (2.5 hours) and is best experienced with an overnight stay.
Pahalgam is also the traditional base camp for the Amarnath Yatra โ one of India's holiest Hindu pilgrimages. During July-August, the town buzzes with devotees heading to the sacred cave shrine of Lord Shiva.
The crystal-clear Lidder River is the soul of Pahalgam. Walk along its banks, sit on the rocks, or just listen to the water. Some of the most peaceful moments you'll have in Kashmir.
Named after the Bollywood film "Betaab" shot here. A stunning green valley with a rushing stream, surrounded by pine and deodar forests. One of the most photographed spots in Kashmir.
A quiet village surrounded by meadows and mountains. Starting point for treks to Kolahoi Glacier and Tarsar-Marsar lakes. Less touristy than Betaab โ truly off the beaten path.
The starting point of the Amarnath Yatra trek. Even outside yatra season, it's a beautiful drive with snow-covered peaks and a small glacier. Pony rides available to the snow point.
Hire ponies to explore the pine forests, river banks, and surrounding hills. A wonderful experience especially for families with children.
The Lidder River is famous for brown and rainbow trout. Fishing permits available locally. Best between April and September.
